Moles are the medical term for what are commonly called moles on the skin.

They are usually benign skin lesions that appear as brown, black, or pink spots. All people have between 10 and 40 moles.

Moles can appear anywhere on the body and may be present from birth (congenital melanocytic nevi) or develop later (acquired melanocytic nevi) as a result of continuous and excessive sun exposure, resulting in many of the moles turning into skin malignancies and having to be removed.

When should a mole be removed?

There are different categories of moles, most moles are harmless. There is no reason to remove them if there is no cause for concern, if they are not injured by friction from clothing or accessories, or if they are not aesthetically disturbing due to their anatomical location.

However, if you notice a mole on your skin changing shape, size, or color, then it should be checked, as it may be a warning sign of skin cancer.

Mole removal procedure.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in the office and the skin lesion is sent for histological examination.
