Botulinum Toxin

The No. 1 non-invasive injectable treatment worldwide.

Behind the wrinkled faces of a large number of women and men lies a protein. Botulinum toxin, a derivative of the Clostridium botulinum bacillus, is used, among other clinical applications, to treat dynamic facial wrinkles.

There are 3 different types of facial muscle shaping for which the application is indicated:

Orthokinetic type

There is absolute synchronization of emotions and mimic facial expressions. The effect of Botulinum Toxin can last for more than 6 months!

Hyperactive type

The hyperkinetic type is the most common type of face. There is no synchronization between muscle contractions and facial expression of emotions. The result can last 4 to 6 months.

Hypertonic type

The facial muscles are in a slight continuous contraction. The wrinkles do not disappear completely. The muscle contraction is blocked for less than 4 months and more applications are needed every year.

There are 2 types of wrinkles on the face, static and dynamic.

Botulinum toxin is effective in dynamic wrinkles, expression wrinkles, which are caused by muscle contraction during normal facial expressions.

This is how frown lines (vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows), horizontal forehead wrinkles, wrinkles at the temples known as “crow’s feet”, paranasal wrinkles, perioral wrinkles (sadness wrinkles), and wrinkles on the neck and cervix are created.

Strongly visible facial wrinkles are often perceived as anger, anxiety, distress, fatigue, fear or melancholy. With botulinum toxin treatment, by relaxing the responsible muscles, the skin relaxes and dynamic expression wrinkles are reduced.

Botulinum toxin offers nothing in terms of static wrinkles.

Static wrinkles are a result of aging, loss of collagen and elastin and elasticity.
We combat static facial wrinkles with the help of Laser technology (RF Microneedling) in combination with injectable treatments (e.g. Hyaluronic acid).

Results

The results of Botulinum Toxin treatment are impressive and can be seen after 2-3 days up to 15 days after its application. Specifically, what we see is a smooth forehead without wrinkles, raised eyebrows, absence of wrinkles around the eyes and in general a face with a renewed, rested expression. It would be a good idea to check the result after 7-15 days of treatment in case an additional dose may be needed in areas where the treatment did not work as expected.

Complications

There are no permanent complications. There may be drooping of the eyelid, but it is temporary and treatable.

Contraindications

  • Not done during pregnancy
  • It is not allowed if you have herpes or any other infection where the application will be made.
  • Not allowed in neurological diseases
  • Not allowed for people suffering from neuromuscular disease or taking medications that affect neuromuscular transmission

Repeating the treatment

The treatment is repeated depending on the type of facial muscle shaping after 3 to 6 months because the muscle mobility returns to the pre-treatment stage and the face has the initial wrinkling again. It should be mentioned here that there are cases where the result lasts longer after a certain number of treatments.

Other indications of Botulinum Toxin

Against hyperhidrosis.

Injections are performed mainly in the armpits, palms and soles with a duration of action of 6-12 months.

As a corrective tool on the face

In cases to deal with emotions after nerve damage or facial nerve injuries.

Against migraine.

Injections at selective points on the temple and scalp. Excellent results in reducing the frequency of migraine or tension headache attacks.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions and answers

Where is botulinum toxin applied?

It is a completely painless treatment and effectively treats:

  • Forehead Wrinkles (denial wrinkles)
  • Frown lines (anger lines)
  • Eye Wrinkles (crow’s feet)
  • Nose Wrinkles (bunny lines)
  • Lip Wrinkles (marionette lines)
  • Neck Wrinkles (Nefertite)

The application lasts 10-15 minutes: The material is diluted in a protocol dosage of the drug and with very small needles it is injected into the problem areas. It is not a painful procedure beyond an irritation that goes away within 20 minutes.

It works by blocking the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, causing reversible chemical denervation. The effect of Botulinum Toxin is therefore chemical denervation, removing the ability of the muscles to contract intensely, which causes wrinkles. A completely reversible effect, within 3-7 months.

The instructions after the treatment are that we avoid lying down for 4 hours, do not bend over, do not rub or touch the area where the application was made for 24 hours after the treatment, do not take aspirin both before and after the treatment, do not consume alcohol for one day and avoid the sun or solarium, hair dryer and hot water on the forehead for 2 days.
